Península Valdés

The Península Valdés, a geographical accident resulting in a perfect habitat and haven for extraordinary fauna and flora, was declared as a Natural Humanity Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1999. It is home to an extensive variety of wildlife including colonies of marine birds, resting places for South American elephant seals and sea lion colonies, dolphins and orcas, and its biggest attraction - the Southern right whale breeding season - that takes place from June to December (high season October and November).

Other protected wildlife includes guanacos, maras, rheas, Magellanic Penguins and migratory shore seabirds.

We wholeheartedly recommend staying away from the city of Puerto Madryn in the small and stunning Puerto Pirámides, just across the bay. From there you can whale watch, sea kayak, dive, hike and really soak up the magic away from the city.
