Andes Crossing to Chile

An Andes crossing to Chile is an amazing opportunity to cross the entire Andes mountain range from East to West. The totally unique experience is absolutely adored by all those who have the time to make this very special journey. Setting out from the beautiful mountainous area of Pampa Linda under the soaring Mount Tronador (at 3478m the top of the Lake District region), we follow an ancient trail into Chile, originally a secret escape route for persecuted indians. For the 2011-12 Patagonian Summer Season we are designing a new crossing, which should be even more remote and beautiful!

These longer riding adventures promise utterly unforgettable encounters with both nature and local people, journeying over steep mountainous terrain and camping by beautiful pristine rivers and hidden lakes. We also enjoy the delights of Argentina´s finest wines, asado (beef) and Chile's hot springs. The hardy Chilean Criolle horse and Argentinean Mustang are our superb companions for these one way special pack trips, during which we can utilise refugios en route as an alternative to camping.

From our finish at Petrohue on the foothills of the striking Osorno Volcano we have the option to return to Bariloche via the famous Lakes Crossing route or by private bus.

4 days to a week's riding

immensely beautiful and varied landscapes
camps or combinations of camping and refugios
